William James Pullman studied at the State University of New York at Oneonta and later earned a master's degree in theater at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. 

 

He is actively involved in various social and charitable projects. He is committed to educational initiatives and supports programs that provide access to arts and theater education for disadvantaged children. He has also championed environmental projects and is a proponent of sustainable practices in the film industry.

 

Pullman's breakthrough came in the early 1990s with his role in the movie “Spaceballs” (1987), a parody of science fiction films in which he played the hero Lone Starr. However, his acting talent was truly recognized when he took on the role of President Thomas J. Whitmore in the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day”. The film was a worldwide success and made Pullman a household name in Hollywood.

 

After his breakthrough, Pullman continued his career with a variety of roles, both in films and on television. He appeared in romantic comedies such as “While You Were Sleeping” (1995) alongside Sandra Bullock and also showed his acting skills in dramatic roles such as “The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption” (2012). In recent years, he has also worked successfully on television, particularly in the series “The Sinner”, which earned him much praise.

He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his role in the miniseries “The Last Don” (1998) and for a Golden Globe Award for his performance in “The Sinner” (2017). As part of the ensemble of “Independence Day”, he received the Screen Actors Guild Award.
