Christopher Peter Meloni grew up in a family with Italian roots and has two siblings. Meloni attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he earned a degree in theater studies. After graduating, he moved to New York City to pursue his acting career. Known for his distinctive voice and physical presence, Meloni has established himself as a versatile actor.

 

He has been married to producer Doris Sherman Williams since 1996. The couple have two children. Meloni keeps his private life largely out of the public eye, but occasionally shares glimpses of his family life via social media. He is a passionate sportsman and enjoys activities such as running and weightlifting.

 

Meloni is actively involved in various social causes, particularly mental health and animal welfare. He supports organizations such as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and promotes awareness about mental illness. He is also a supporter of animal welfare organizations and has advocated for the adoption of pets.

 

Christopher Meloni's breakthrough came in the late 1990s with his role as Detective Elliot Stabler in the successful series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (SVU), which premiered in 1999. His portrayal of a dedicated but often emotionally charged police officer earned him much acclaim and made him a familiar face on television.

 

Following his success on “SVU,” Meloni starred in several film and television projects, including “Wet Hot American Summer” (2001) and “Man of Steel” (2013), where he took on the role of Colonel Hardy. Following the end of his time on “SVU” in 2011, he returned in 2021 with the series “Law & Order: Organized Crime”, which focuses on his character Elliot Stabler and offers him new opportunities to showcase his acting skills.

 

In recent years, Meloni has also appeared in other projects, including the HBO series “True Blood” as well as various guest appearances in popular series such as “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”. His versatility as an actor allows him to take on both dramatic and comedic roles.

For “Law & Order: SVU” he was nominated by the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast and nominated by the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
