Michael Joseph Kelly grew up in an Irish-Italian family and developed a passion for acting at an early age. After graduating from Coastal Carolina University, he moved to New York City to pursue his acting career. There he began his career in the theater and appeared in various off-Broadway productions. Michael Kelly is also involved in charitable causes outside of acting and is committed to social justice.
His breakthrough in the film business came in 2008 with his role as agent Ron Hewitt in the film "Changeling", directed by Clint Eastwood. Although it was a supporting role, Michael Kelly impressed with his performance and was praised by critics. This success opened the doors to further film projects for him.
Kelly has also starred in several successful television series. One of his best-known roles is that of Doug Stamper in the award-winning series "House of Cards". He received much praise for this role and was nominated for an Emmy Award. He has also appeared in other popular series such as "The Sopranos", "The Blacklist" and "Taboo".
Kelly has since appeared in a number of films, including "Fair Game" (2010), "Now You See Me" (2013) and "Everest" (2015).

Michael Kelly has been nominated a total of four times for the Emmy Award. He received three nominations in the category "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series" for his role as Doug Stamper in the series "House of Cards". In 2015, he finally won the Emmy Award in this category.
