Omar Sy & his dubbing voice Sascha Rotermund

Omar Sy was born on January 20, 1977 in Trappes, a town near Paris, France. He is the son of Mauritanian immigrants and grew up in a multicultural environment. Omar has a large family and is the eldest of ten siblings. 

 

He is actively involved in social issues, particularly in the area of integration and equal opportunities. He advocates for disadvantaged communities and supports various organizations working for social justice. He is also an ambassador for the organization “Les Enfoirés”, which campaigns against poverty and social exclusion in France.

 

Sy's breakthrough came in 2011 with his role as Driss in the film “Pretty Best Friends” (original title: “Intouchables”), a French comedy that enjoyed great success worldwide. The film tells the story of an unusual friendship between a paraplegic aristocrat and his carer from a disadvantaged neighborhood. Omar's performance brought him international recognition and made him one of France's best-known actors.

 

After the success of “Pretty Best Friends”, Omar Sy continued to expand his career and appeared in various international productions. He appeared in films such as “Jurassic World” (2015) and “The Monsters” (original title: “Demain tout commence”, 2016). He has also appeared in series such as “Lupin” (2021), where he plays the lead role of Assane Diop - a modern adaptation of the stories of Arsène Lupin, the famous master thief.

He received the César for Best Actor for his role in “Pretty Best Friends” and was nominated for an International Emmy Award for his role in “Lupin”.  In 2012, he was awarded the Trophée du Film Français for Best Actor.
