Robert John Downey Jr. was born in New York City and grew up in a family of actors. His father, Robert Downey Sr, was a well-known filmmaker, while his mother, Elsie Ford, was an actress. Robert showed a great talent for acting at an early age and began acting in his father's films at the age of five. 

 

Despite his success, Robert Downey Jr. struggled with drug problems for a long time, which jeopardized his career on several occasions. However, after several stays in rehab clinics, he managed to get clean and get his life back on track.
