Miscellaneous:
Ashley Judd was born Ashley Tyler Ciminella in Granada Hills. Her early life was marked by frequent moves: in twelve years, she attended a total of about 13 schools. After college, she moved to Hollywood and completed additional acting training, including at the Playhouse West acting school. Later, beyond her film career, she earned a master's degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School in 2010.
Breakthrough:
Young Ashley Judd made her acting breakthrough in the early 1990s: in 1993, she took on the lead role in the film Ruby in Paradise. Her performance was very well received by critics and audiences alike and earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress. She had previously played smaller television and film roles, such as in the early 1990s in the series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Development:
In the years that followed, Ashley Judd proved her versatility: She starred in a series of films ranging from thrillers to dramas, including successful titles such as Kiss the Girls (1997), Double Jeopardy (1999), High Crimes, the biopic Frida (2002) and the family drama Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
Parallel to her film career, she became increasingly involved in political and humanitarian causes. Over the years, she has worked for numerous non-profit organisations and has been particularly committed to women's and girls' rights. Her training in public administration and her personal commitment have helped her to make an impact off-screen as well, for example through humanitarian projects and public advocacy for social issues.

5 awards & 18 nominations
Throughout her career, she has been nominated for several prestigious awards, including an Emmy nomination in 1996 for her performance in the television film Norma Jean & Marilyn.
