Miscellaneous:
Cynthia Ellen Nixon came into contact with the stage and literature at an early age, as her mother Anne Knoll was a well-known theatre actress and her father worked as a radio presenter and journalist. She began her acting training as a teenager. After her first appearances on Broadway and in television productions, she studied at Barnard College, Columbia University. There she combined her humanities studies with practical theatre work and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1988.

In her private life, Nixon combines personal convictions with public engagement. She is openly bisexual and has been campaigning for LGBTQ+ rights, educational reform and social justice for years. In 2018, she ran as a Democrat for the office of Governor of New York State, making it clear that she sees her celebrity status as a platform for political causes.

Breakthrough:
Nixon achieved her international breakthrough in 1998 with the television series ‘Sex and the City’. In the role of lawyer Miranda Hobbes, she embodied a modern, independent woman navigating career, relationships and self-doubt. Her portrayal combined dry humour with emotional depth, making Miranda one of the series' most popular characters. The success of ‘Sex and the City’ opened up numerous opportunities for Nixon in film, television and theatre.

Development:
Instead of allowing herself to be typecast as a television character, Nixon deliberately sought out challenging projects. She enjoyed great success in the theatre, including in Rabbit Hole, for which she won a Tony Award in 2006. On television, she gave convincing performances in biographical and literary roles: in ‘Warm Springs’ she played the wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and in “Ratched” she portrayed a complex antagonist to the main character. Her portrayal of the writer Emily Dickinson in ‘A Quiet Passion’ received particular attention, in which Nixon revealed the poet's inner turmoil with restrained intensity.

Accolades:
17 awards & 55 nominations

Cynthia Nixon has received numerous awards for her work. In 2004, she won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Sex and the City. Further Emmys followed for her roles in Warm Springs and Rabbit Hole (television version), establishing her as a versatile actress in a variety of formats. The Tony Award for her theatre performance also underlines her importance on stage. Overall, Nixon represents a style of acting that combines popularity and artistic integrity.

German dubbing voice:
In German-speaking countries, Nixon has been dubbed primarily by Marina Krogull for many years. Krogull's clear, mature and warm voice is a perfect match for Nixon's sober, analytical presence. This has created a strong acoustic identity for German audiences, which is particularly associated with the character of Miranda Hobbes.
