Salma Hayek Pinault grew up in a wealthy family and had a privileged childhood. She showed an early interest in acting and began acting lessons at the age of 12.
After leaving school, Hayek moved to Mexico City to study acting. There she began her career in Mexican television and appeared in various telenovelas.
Alongside her career, Hayek is also committed to social and political issues. She actively campaigns for women's rights and is an advocate for the rights of minorities. She is also a UNICEF ambassador and supports various charities.
In Latin America she became known for her leading role in the successful telenovela series "Teresa" (1989).
